From March 2020: My husband and I received a gift certificate to dine at Michel’s at the Island Colony Hotel from his sister Susan. Michel’s Restaurant is one of the high end restaurants in Waikiki. We tried to book a reservation earlier however, the restaurant is so busy and we had to move the date several times. The restaurant is right on the water with a great view of the Waikiki shoreline.
Michel’s offers a free valet parking where the manager is waiting at the entrance. You will feel the warm welcome right from the entrance and you are asked in advance the last name on the reservation so they can prepare the table as soon as you enter the restaurant door. there are a few steps down from the entrance into a beautiful lobby leading to the restaurant. The Host and servers are very attentive and friendly. We requested a window sitting however due to the restaurant is busy and Friday there’s no available in window sitting but they arrange a table that is close to the window. This table actually provided a perfect view of the Friday night Waikiki fireworks!
The server offered us a drink and appetizer menu after we seated. One of the server gave us a surprise treat to go along with sesame chips with macadamia butter. The treat was Ahi Tartare with caviar served on a cucumber slice. It looked really good, however, I do not eat raw fish so it was all for Steve! Note: he loved it! All the servers were aware that Steve and I were celebrating 8 years together. Every server who came to our table greeted us, including the General Manager!
We started with the Michel’s Famous Lobster Bisque, the restaurant has table side service, so we had the chance to watch them preparing the soup.

We ordered Michel’s Ocean Bounty for myself and a huge Porterhouse steak for Steve. As you can see, the food is beautifully presented. The seafood was very tasty with plenty of options. Michel’s Ocean Bounty included Scallops, Kauai Prawns, Blackened Ahi, Grilled Island Fish, Baked Lobster Tail & Spaghetti Squash with Lemon & Roasted Macadamia Nut Butter. Steve’s Porterhouse Steak included a small serving of mashed potato, sauteed asparagus and grilled tomato. Steve enjoyed his steak as well.
Steve and I totally enjoyed the night. The service was outstanding, the food was good and there was live music with a classical guitarist playing everything from the Beatles and Led Zeppelin to Tchaikovsky and Beethoven! We experienced the bonus of the Friday fireworks as well. The night was spectacular: our servers gave us complementary chocolate with Happy Anniversary greetings at the end of the meal.
The Sunset was spectacular too. Thank you Susan and Michel’s for making our Anniversary extra special. I would highly recommend this restaurant for any special occasions.
